Melissa founded Melissa Mathe Interior Design, LLC in 2010 after gaining valuable experience in top architecture and design firms in Richmond, Virginia and Atlanta, Georgia. She is a Certified Interior Designer by the Commonwealth of Virginia, holds a National Council for Interior Design Qualification certificate and is a nationally accredited professional for green design by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED-AP). She specializes in interior design and planning. Melissa has significant experience working with both large and small clients in high end residential design, corporate, healthcare and hospitality.
Prior to starting her own business, Melissa worked for firms gaining experience in hospitality, commercial, high-end residential design, kitchen design, healthcare and became proficient in CAD. Melissa has a BS in Interior Design from Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina where she also studied business management. Melissa lives in Richmond with her family. She enjoys training for and competing in triathlons, volunteering with Comfort Zone Camp, and dabbling in amateur photography.
As a designer, Melissa understands the relationships that exist between people and things - big or small – room by room – nooks and crannies – Melissa’s eye for aesthetics, organization and practicality will bring harmony to any space.

Melissa Vaughan has 20 years of experience renovation, historic renovation and new construction in the fields of commercial, higher education, institutional, museum and residential architecture and is a sole proprietor of Melissa Vaughan Architecture (MVA), Ashland, VA incorporated in 2014. For the last 14 years, she has lead her colleagues as a Sustainability Director focusing on the greening of projects, the greening of office policies and educating clients and business leaders of choices that will enhance the sustainability of their practices, buildings and landscapes. Melissa Vaughan AIA is NCARB certified, CSI CDT certified, a LEED Profession BD+C, registered in Virginia and the District of Columbia and a corporate member of our National Green Building Council, USGBC. Her passion is solving problems with beautiful, efficient and useful designs and she brings a spirit of collaboration during the design and construction that benefits the budget, the schedule and project goals.
